Establishment

In 1949 Sergeant Toon Boer got the order to establish a drum corps at the training centre of the Royal Dutch Military Police. Initially it was improvising with instruments on loan. The members of the drum corps came from the various classes of the professional training. A combination of studying law and music was complicated, but as all the members of the drum corps were stationed in the same platoon, they remained together for their professional training. Their primary objective remained to become a regular military policeman. But despite all practical problems, sergeant Boer intended to present a good band, which was worth the Military Police's reputation.

On 31st August 1949 a military parade took place at the Loolaan in Apeldoorn at the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina's birthday. Unfortunately there was no military band present during this parade. Partly because of that situation a support action in order to collect money for the instruments of the Drum Corps was started.

The inhabitants of Apeldoorn were offered to buy a certificate at the costs of 1 Guilder (1949!!), which allowed them the entry to the barracks for the official initiation ceremony of the drum corps. The total result of the action was 5000 Guilders. A considerable amount of money for those years. The money was used to buy 1 bass drum, 2 parade drums, 8 tenor drums and 16 bugles in E-flat + the official equipment. On 12th April 1950 during a festive ceremony and in attendance of civil and military authorities the then Mayor of Apeldoorn Mr. A.L. Des Tombe personally handed the instruments to the musicians.

The then cinema news journal Polygoon was present as well to record the ceremony.
